Latest News on Combat Wounded Care Residences
Dunham House is set to create a new national memorial to honor America’s fallen service members, a project spearheaded by retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel John Folsom. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, this memorial will pay tribute to over 6,500 U.S. service members who lost their lives in operations connected to the post-9/11 wars.
A Memorial Etched in Strength
The memorial will be crafted from Sunset Granite, with each name engraved into the stone. “Granite’s resilience is symbolic of the strength and determination of our service members,” says Folsom. The memorial will remind us, “The Nation which forgets its Defenders will itself be forgotten.”
Dunham House: A Place of Honor
The memorial will be situated at the entrance of Dunham House, the first long-term residential facility for combat-wounded veterans. Scheduled to open in Spring 2026, Dunham House will provide housing and care for 30 veterans who have suffered severe injuries. It represents a community where these heroes can live with the dignity they deserve.
Addressing an Urgent Need
Colonel Folsom, who founded Wounded Warriors Family Support, aims to address the lack of appropriate care facilities for veterans with catastrophic injuries. Many are currently placed in elderly nursing homes, an unacceptable solution according to Folsom. Dunham House, alongside the memorial, is his answer to this challenge.
A Tribute to Courage
Named in honor of Marine Corporal Jason L. Dunham, the facility embodies his spirit of courage and selflessness. The memorial will stand as a testament to those who served and sacrificed, both those who returned and those who did not.
