Latest News on Combat Wounded Care Residences

On May 6, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of the Dunham House project in Omaha, Nebraska. This pioneering facility is set to transform the landscape of care for combat-wounded veterans, offering a unique residential community tailored to their needs.

Addressing Critical Needs

Between 2000 and 2019, nearly 414,000 service members worldwide sustained a traumatic brain injury, according to the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. Many young veterans live with their parents, who may eventually be unable to provide the care they need. Dunham House aims to fill this gap by offering long-term residential care that supports independence while meeting the daily living needs of veterans.

A New Home for Healing

The $13.9 million project, free from debt, will be situated on a scenic 40-acre site in north Omaha. Designed to accommodate 30 veterans, the facility will feature one-bedroom apartments and specialized units for those with greater physical needs. Residents will benefit from community-focused spaces, including a great room, dining area, fitness center, and memorial plaza. The first residents are expected to move in by July 2026.

A Collaborative Effort

The Dunham House is a collaboration with the Omaha-based nonprofit Wounded Warriors Family Support, and it forms part of their programming and operational scope. The construction is led by Lund-Ross Constructors, a company with a strong track record across the Midwest. Rob Stargel, Vice President of Lund-Ross, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “Dunham House is more than a building. It’s a place for quality of life.”

Joining the Mission

The initiative encourages community involvement through a donation program. For just $25 a month, donors can help build this vital facility. Col. John Folsom, the driving force behind Dunham House, expressed the impact of collective support, saying, “If 12,000 Americans join in a single, dedicated purpose, Dunham House will become a beautiful and sustainable care residence for America’s most worthy combat-wounded veterans.”
